COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – New Mexico’s Jake Hall was named the Old Trapper Mountain West Freshman of the Week, the conference announced Monday. Hall was honored after leading the Lobos to a pair of home wins last week.
Hall’s honor is his second of the season and the fifth overall for a Lobo, as Tomislav Buljan has been recognized three times this season. Buljan and Hall join JT Toppin (2023-24) as the only Lobos to ever win the freshman honor multiple times in a season.
Hall averaged 17.5 points and 6.5 rebounds per game last week, shooting 8-16 (.500) from deep in the wins over Fresno State and Nevada. In Wednesday’s 83-74 win over Fresno State, Hall had a team-high 16 points on 5-11 shooting, including 3-7 from deep. In the 80-73 win over Nevada on Saturday, as the Lobos won their 23rd straight game at The Pit, Hall scored 16 of his team-high 19 points in the second half as UNM erased an eight-point deficit. He shot 5-9 from deep against the Wolf Pack, his sixth game of the season with at least five threes, double the total of any other Mountain West player. Hall set the New Mexico freshman record for threes during the win over Nevada, now with 59 triples on the season.
The Lobos (16-4, 7-2 MW) travel for a pair of games this week, visiting UNLV on Tuesday (9pm MT – CBSSN) and San Jose State on Saturday (8pm MT – CBSSN).
