University of New Mexico President Garnett S. Stokes has named Ryan Berryman as Interim Vice President and Director of Athletics, effective January 1, 2026.
Berryman, who currently serves as Deputy Athletics Director and Chief Operating Officer, will provide leadership and continuity for Lobo Athletics as the search for a permanent Vice President and Director of Athletics is conducted.
“Ryan Berryman brings deep institutional knowledge, steady leadership, and a strong commitment to our student-athletes, coaches, and staff,” said President Stokes. “His experience and collaborative approach position him well to guide our athletics program during this transition, and I am confident he will continue to build the momentum of Lobo Athletics.”
Berryman has served in senior leadership roles within UNM Athletics over the course of the past decade, including extensive oversight of budget and multi-year fiscal planning, human resources, procurement, contract administration, legal affairs, and name, image, and likeness agreements. In his current role, he oversees core internal operations and has played a central role in strengthening financial stewardship, operational continuity, and support for the student-athlete experience.
