The Lobos (1-0) opened the season Wednesday night with a 76-54 victory over East Texas A&M. UNM held the Lions to 14 first-half points, the fewest for a Lobo opponent in nine years. Freshmen Jake Hall and Uriah Tenette led New Mexico with 14 points each in their collegiate debuts.
UT Arlington is also 1-0 after defeating UNT Dallas 91-40 in its home opener on Monday night. The Mavericks were picked fourth in the preseason
New Mexico has won all five previous meetings, four of which came at The Pit. The teams last met two years ago when the Lobos won 82-80 on Donovan Dent’s coast-to-coast game-winning layup. The first-ever meeting, in the 1990-91 opener, was a 136-99 UNM win in a game where the Lobos scored the most points ever against a Division I opponent.
The Lobos’ three-game season-opening homestand will conclude on Tuesday when they host UC Riverside. Game time is 7 p.m. and the tickets are on sale now at GoLobos.com/tickets.
