ALBUQUERQUE, N.M – The New Mexico men’s basketball team officially tips off the 2025-26 season Wednesday night when it hosts East Texas A&M at The Pit. Game time is 7:00 p.m. and the game will be broadcast on Altitude 2, streamed for free on the Mountain West Network and will air on Lobo Radio Network.

Tickets for Wednesday’s opener are on sale now at GoLobos.com/tickets. Gates will open at 5:30 p.m. Fans who arrive early can get their photo taken with the 2024-25 Mountain West Regular Season Trophy from 5:30-7:00 p.m. on the north concourse. At halftime, there will be a high-flying performance by The Dunk Team.

The Lobos, who are one of three teams in the nation to not return a single player, coach, or basketball staff member from last year, were picked fifth in the preseason Mountain West poll. UNM split a pair of preseason games, falling at Washington State before defeating Northern Arizona at The Pit. Antonio Chol led the Lobos over the two exhibitions, averaging 15.5 points per game in the preseason.

East Texas A&M is 1-0 after a 119-60 season-opening win over Division II Arlington Baptist on Monday. The Lions, who are in their fourth season at the Division I level, finished 11th in the Southland Conference last season.

New Mexico is 92-30 all-time in season openers and has won 22 straight openers since a loss to Cal in the first game of the 2002-03 season. The Lobos are 53-5 in home openers in the Pit, having won their last 20 home openers since that same loss to Cal in 2002-03.

It will be the fourth all-time meeting between New Mexico and East Texas A&M, all at The Pit, with the Lobos having won all three previous matchups. The teams last met in 1981-82, a 113-69 Lobo win, when then-East Texas State was a NAIA member.

The Lobos’ three-game season-opening homestand will continue on Saturday (Nov. 8) when they host UT Arlington. Game time is 2 p.m. and the tickets are on sale now at GoLobos.com/tickets. Saturday is Kids Free Day at The Pit. Fans who purchase an adult ticket can add two free kids tickets at GoLobos.com/tickets.
