BOISE, Idaho— The 2025 season came to a close on Sunday afternoon against Utah State in the Mountain West Championship, with an Aggie goal in the 71st minute the difference in the contest.
UNM took eight shots in the match, two on frame, but were outshot 7-0 in the second half and 2-0 in shots on goal in the second half.
Alysa Whelchel took the first shot of the match 11 minutes in, with USU’s first shot coming 12 minutes in, with Whelchel’s blocked and the Aggie’s shot high. UNM’s best chance of the half, and the match, came at the 17:36 mark, a shot by Allie Anderson that was kick saved and a follow up shot by Whelchel six seconds later that was also saved by the Aggie keeper, who came out at Whelchel to make the save.
UNM took five more shots in the half, a shot that was high by Kennedy Brown, a shot that was also high by Alejandra Puerto, a shot by both Andersons that were blocked and a shot with less than a minute less by Claire Roybal that went wide right.
The Lobos held an 8-5 advantage in shots, 2-0 in shots on goal, and a 5-1 advantage in corner kicks.
USU took the first shot of the second half at 50:43 that was high and took four shots in the first 12 minutes of the second half. Alyson Campbell made her first save of the match at the 59:24 point, which although resulted in consecutive corner kicks, didn’t amount to anything for the Aggies.
UNM had two corner kicks at 69:25 and again at 70:01, with the Aggies getting on the board at 70:48, sliding the ball to the bottom right post and into the net.
The Lobos were unable to get a good look in the remaining time for the final score.
UNM closes the season 8-5-6.
