ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. --- Jack Layne, who completed 17-of-22 passes for a second straight week, was named to the Davey O’Brien Awards Great 8 list for Week 10. Layne was 17-for-22 passing for 342 yards and three touchdowns in UNM’s 40-35 win over UNMLV that made UNM bowl eligible for the first time in nine seasons.

One of the eight will be named the Davey O’Brien Award’s Quarterback of the Week on Tuesday afternoon.

Layne just missed a career-high with his 342 yards passing. He became the first quarterback in Lobo Football history to record two 80-yard touchdown passes in the same game, and he did it in the same quarter, hitting Damon Bankston for 84 yards and Keagan Johnson for 80 in a 24-point second quarter.

Down 35-34 (the only time trailing in the game) with 6:35 to go, Layne was a perfect 3-for-3 passing for 59 yards as UNM scored with 2:57 to go in the game to take a 40-35 lead.

On the season, Layne is 162-for-237 with 12 touchdowns and nine interceptions. He has thrown for 1,940 yards, and his completion percentage of 68.4% will easily establish a school record. His quarterback rating of 146.2 would be good for third in a single season in Lobo history.

UNM is off this week but returns home looking for a 5-0 home start and a fourth straight win overall when the Lobos host Colorado State in the final matchup between the two teams as Mountain West opponents. That game will kick off on Saturday, November 15, at 1 p.m.
