U.S. AIR FORCE ACADEMY, Colo. – New Mexico Volleyball completed a 2-0 week on the road with a thrilling five-set win over Air Force (29-27, 25-22, 18-25, 22-25, 15-8) on Saturday behind a season-high 21 team blocks and three Lobos with double-digit kills.
Entering this week, the Lobos (13-14, 5-11 MW) had yet to win a conference match on the road – they’ve now won two road matches and three matches overall in a row after stifling Nevada in three on Thursday in Reno and outlasting the Falcons in five on Saturday. They also avenged a setback to Air Force two weeks ago in which they were swept at home by the Falcons for the first time since 2019.
It's the Lobos' first time winning three matches in a row this season since Sep. 6.
Lauryn Payne (17 kills), Gioia Riccato (12 kills) and Zoe Leonard (11 kills) all finished in double figures, with Leonard hitting at a team-leading .440 clip to go with a team-high 12 block assists in the process. Those 12 block assists match Liepa Lavickyte for third-most in a single match in program history. It's also the first double-double of Leonard's career.
Freshman Addison France supplied nine more kills and six blocks and Reagan Miller added five kills and nine blocks to round out UNM’s most dominant effort at the net this season – UNM held the Falcons to .185 hitting with 34 attacking errors in total while hitting .195 themselves.
Four Lobos also recorded double-digit digs, led by Camila Canedo’s ninth performance of 20 or more digs this season (22 digs). Gioia Riccato finished with 12 to notch her third double-double of the season, while Madeleine Miller picked up 13 for her ninth double-double of the season and Madison Blanco added 14.
Madeleine Miller also surpassed 40 assists for the eighth time this season, dishing out 46 of UNM’s 46 in total while coming up with six block assists.
