RENO, Nev. — New Mexico earned its first road conference victory of the season in dominant fashion on Thursday night, sweeping Nevada (25–22, 25–20, 25–20) at Virginia Street Gym.

The Lobos (12-14, 4-11 MW) have now won back-to-back conference matches for the first time this season.

The win also completed a season sweep of the Wolf Pack and extended the Lobos’ run to nine consecutive set wins in the series dating back to 2024. In the two teams’ first meeting at the Johnson Center on Oct. 30, the Lobos won in three as well (25-14, 25-14, 25-21).

The Lobos hit .225 for the match and controlled the net with 13.0 team blocks, holding Nevada under .200 in each of the first two sets. Setter Madeleine Miller directed the offense with 24 assists, adding five digs, a solo block and three block assists. Libero Camila Canedo steadied the backcourt with 14 digs and a perfect reception performance.

Three Lobos produced eight kills apiece to lead a balanced attack for UNM:

  • Lauryn Payne (8–2–23, .261, 3 blocks, 10 points)
  • Addison France (8–2–24, .250, 5 total blocks, 12 points)
  • Gioia Riccato (8–3–28, .179, match-high 3 aces, 11 points)

Zoe Leonard added 4 kills and 6 total blocks -- three of which came in the final three points for UNM in the third set to close things out -- while Reagan Miller recorded 3 kills and 3 blocks.

THE HIGHLIGHTS

Set One – New Mexico 25, Nevada 22
New Mexico opened the match with a balanced attack and early block presence, finishing the frame with 10 kills and 3.0 team blocks. Riccato and France paced the offense, while Canedo posted 7 digs to stabilize serve receive after UNM fell behind 5–2. A mid-set 9–1 surge put the Lobos in control, and Leonard’s front-row defense helped close out the opening win.

Set Two – New Mexico 25, Nevada 20
Defense again carried the Lobos, who registered 8 total blocks in the second frame while holding the Wolf Pack to 6 kills. France, Leonard and Madeleine Miller combined for the majority of the stops as UNM turned an 11–11 tie into a multi-point cushion. Riccato contributed three service aces in the set, and the Lobos overcame four attack errors by siding out at key moments to secure the 2–0 lead.

Set Three – New Mexico 25, Nevada 20
UNM delivered its cleanest offensive performance in the final set, hitting .415 with 18 kills and just a single error. Payne and Riccato each supplied four third-set kills, while France and Leonard added three apiece -- Leonard's three kills all came in the final three points for UNM as they closed things out. The Lobos controlled play early, weathered a mid-set Nevada push, and finished on a 6–2 closing run fueled by efficient first-ball sideouts and steady transition swings.
