The Lobos (2-0) have opened a season with two 18-plus point victories for the first time in six years after wins over East Texas A&M and UT Arlington. New Mexico’s defense has shined in the first two games, allowing just 110 points total, UNM’s fewest allowed over the first two games of a season since 2011-12. Offensively, the Lobos have had five different players already record a double-figure scoring game.
UC Riverside is also 2-0 this season and is coming off a road victory at North Dakota. The Highlanders were picked ninth in the preseason Big West poll.
New Mexico won the only previous meeting, 67-51, in the 2009-10 season opener at The Pit.
The Lobos’ will open its road schedule Saturday with a trip to Las Cruces for this year’s edition of the Rio Grande Rivalry with New Mexico State. Game time is 7 p.m. and the game will air on ESPN+.
