LAS VEGAS, Nev. --- Philip Bosin took down the tournament's No. 2 seed. Then he followed that up with a straight-set win to advance to the quarterfinals of the Mountain West Fall qualifier, moving within two wins of earning a slot in the NCAA Championships.
Along with Bosin, UNM's doubles team of Jakub Prachar and Tyler Waddock earned their way into the quarterfinals with an 8-3 win over Tyler Leaird and Caden Lee of Air Force. Prachar and Waddock, the No. 2 seed, will face off with Remy Tregoures and Nicolas Recoura of Nevada in the quarters. Recoura was on the Lobos last season.
Bosin won his opening match with a 3-6, 7-6 (7-4), 6-3 win over the No. 2 seed in Aleksi Lofman of San Diego State. That was one of three seeded upsets in the Round of 32. From there, he won 6-1, 7-5 over Joel Gibson on UNLV. His quarterfinal matchup is against Carson Baker of Boise State, who defeated the No. 7 seed, Roman Venger of Nevada.
In singles, UNM's Dario Ciobotaru, the No. 5 seed, won his opening round match 6-3, 6-2 over San Diego State's Brock Anderson. However, he lost in the Round of 16 to Jean-Baptiste Badon of Utah State in a wild match 5-7, 6-4, 7-6 (8-6).
