HIGHLANDS RANCH, Colo. – The New Mexico women’s golf team started play Friday at the Ron Moore Intercollegiate with the opening round of play at the University of Denver Golf Course at Highlands Ranch. The Lobos shot 11-over during the first day of the event and are in 14th place.
Seventh-ranked Vanderbilt is the first round leader at 17-under. Colorado is second at 12-under, while Clemson and Texas State are tied for third at 5-under.
Chelsea Truong led the Lobos during the first round, shooting an even par 72. Maria Caparros Levin rallied from being 3-over through seven holes to shoot a 2-over 74. Juliette Hole shot a 4-over 76 in her first event in the lineup, while Rebecca Galasso shot 77 and Ava Cepeda shot 79 to round out the lineup.
“Chelsea and Maria had some good bounce-backs today,” said head coach Jill Trujillo. “Everyone needs to have better shot commitment tomorrow.”
The tournament continues Saturday and concludes Sunday at the University of Denver Golf Course.
