TULSA, Okla. –– The No. 11 New Mexico men’s golf team began play Monday at The Clerico with the first two rounds of play at famous Southern Hills Country Club, a course that has hosted nine major championships. As play was halted for darkness late in the second round, the Lobos are in fourth place at 13-over.
New Mexico shot 12-over during the morning’s first round before shooting 1-over in the second round as three of the five Lobos completed their round. The other two will complete their second round Tuesday morning prior to the start of the third round. No. 16 Auburn leads the tournament at 3-under, one shot ahead of No. 17 Oklahoma State at 2-under. No. 20 Texas Tech is third at 2-over, followed by the Lobos at 13-over and Northwestern rounds out the top five at 15-over.
Thayer Plewe is the low Lobo after Monday’s play at 2-over, T-11th on the individual leaderboard after consecutive 1-over rounds of 71. Johnnie Clark posted his best round of the season, a 4-under 66, in the afternoon to bounce back from a 77 in the first round to finish the day at 3-over. With two holes left to play in the second round, Wyatt Provence is also at 3-over, while Mesa Falleur is at 5-over. Oliver Cage rounds out the lineup at 19-over.
