LAS VEGAS, Nev. – Senior guard Deyton Albury of the New Mexico men’s basketball team was honored Thursday as the 2025-26 Preseason All-Mountain West Team was announced. Albury, a transfer from Utah State, was the Lobos’ representative to the 10-man team.
The preseason All-Mountain West honors and projected order of finish was announced at the start of the conference’s media day in Las Vegas. New Mexico was picked fifth in the preseason conference poll.
Albury, the only Lobo on this year’s roster with experience playing in the Mountain West, is coming off a 2024-25 season at Utah State that saw him appear in all 34 games, making 23 starts for the Aggies. He averaged 7.8 points and 2.5 rebounds per game, raising his production to 9.2 points per game in Mountain West play. Ten of his 12 double-figure scoring games last season came in conference play, including a season-high 18 points vs. San Diego State.
Joining Albury on the preseason All-Mountain West Team were Andrew Meadow of Boise State, Jaden Henley and Brian Moore, Jr. of Grand Canyon, Elijah Price of Nevada, Myles Byrd, Reese Dixon-Waters and Magoon Gwath of San Diego State, Kimani Hamilton of UNLV and Mason Falslev of Utah State. Byrd was the Preseason Mountain West Player of the Year, Moore was the Preseason Newcomer of the Year and Elzie Harrington of San Diego State was the preseason Freshman of the Year.
San Diego State was the unanimous preseason favorite in the conference, earning all 26 first place votes. Utah State was second, Boise State was third, and Grand Canyon was fourth, just ahead of the Lobos. UNLV, Colorado State, Nevada, Wyoming, San Jose State, Fresno State and Air Force rounded out the poll.
The Lobos will begin the season on Saturday with an exhibition contest at Washington State. New Mexico’s first action at The Pit will come on Oct. 30 with an exhibition against Northern Arizona. The regular season tips off on Nov. 5 when the Lobos host East Texas A&M.
