SAN MARCOS, Texas – The New Mexico women’s golf team began play Sunday at the Jim West Challenge with the first two rounds of play at Kissing Tree Golf Club. The Lobos shot 26-over during the opening 36 holes to finish the day in 12th place.
New Mexico shot 15-over during the first round before shooting 11-over in the second round. Florida State is the 36-hole leader at 9-under, while Texas A&M is the only other team under par at 2-under. Oklahoma is third at even par, while Houston (2-over) is fourth and Texas Tech and TCU (3-over) are tied for fifth.
Maria Caparros Levin is the top Lobo on the individual leaderboard at 5-over, posting rounds of 76 and 73 on Sunday. Ava Cepeda is at 6-over and Juliette Hole is at 7-over. Chelsea Truong shot 10-over on Sunday while Rebecca Galasso rounds out the lineup at 13-over.
“We put together a few good rounds during the gusty conditions in the first round,” said head coach Jill Trujillo. “However, we didn’t take advantage of the calmer conditions in the afternoon though.”
The tournament concludes Monday with the final round at Kissing Tree Golf Club.
