ALBUQUERUQE, N.M.— The Lobos picked up a point on Thursday night against Utah State, remaining undefeated in Mountain West play (3-0-3) as well as in second place in the Mountain West standings with 12 points.

UNM’s Alyson Campbell and the Lobo defense turned away the Aggies time and time again, with a critical block on a shot in the 75th minute and again on a free kick outside of the penalty box in the 76th minute. Campbell made five saves in the match (three in the second half) with the defense blocking five shots.

Utah State outshot the Lobos 15-11 with the Lobos getting two shots on frame, one each from Nicole Anderson and Alysa Whelchel.

UNM took the first shot of the match 1:41 into the contest, a shot by Gabby Beaudry that went wide right, while USU’s first shot came at 3:11 that resulted in Campbell’s first save of the night. Her second save came at 7:26, the last of USU’s seven shots that were on target in the half.

For the Lobos, they took five shots in the first 45 minutes, however, none on goal, with two shots blocked.

UNM’s first shot on goal occurred at the 57:19 mark off of a free kick taken by Fiona Jenkins into the box, with Whelchel getting on the other end of it and taking a shot in traffic which was saved by the USU goalkeeper. Whelchel got the ball back on the rebound and tried to create space, shooting it wide right.

A shot by Alejandra Puerto in the 73rd minute sailed wide right of the post, with an Anderson shot in the 88th minute inside the penalty box saved by the sliding USU’s goalkeeper. The Lobos had a final chance on a corner kick with 55 seconds remaining that didn’t amount to anything as the match ended in a scoreless draw.

With the result, UNM moves to 7-2-5 on the season, 3-0-3 in conference and remains at home to face Boise State on Sunday at noon in a meeting of the top two teams in the standings in the MW.
