LAS VEGAS, Nev. — The New Mexico volleyball team turned in a gritty performance on the road Thursday night but came up just short in a five-set thriller, falling to UNLV 3–2 (32–30, 19–25, 27–25, 17–25, 16–18) at Cox Pavilion.

Sophomore outside Seenane Brewer paced the Lobo offense with a career-high 27 kills on .328 hitting -- the most kills of any Lobo in a single match this season -- adding three blocks and 30.5 total points. Lauryn Payne joined her in double figures with 18 kills, while hitting .220 and contributing three blocks of her own.

Setter Madeleine Miller kept the offense steady, dishing out 49 assists and adding five kills on a .455 clip. Camila Canedo anchored the back row with an outstanding 44 digs, her highest total of the year and one of the top single-match efforts in the Mountain West this season.

As a team, the Lobos hit .262 with 67 total kills and 9.0 team blocks, while recording six service aces and holding UNLV to a narrow .335 clip in an offensive showcase that featured nearly 200 total kills between the two sides.

New Mexico battled from down 16-8 to win a marathon first set – their longest set of the year – and took a 2-1 lead after going into extra points again in the third. The Lobos led 11-6 midway through the decisive fifth set before UNLV scored 12 of the next 17 points and closed on a 3-0 run to hold them off late.
