LAKE FOREST, ILL. –– The No. 22 New Mexico men’s golf team capped a strong performance at the Windon Memorial on Tuesday, with the Lobos posting a runner-up finish as Mesa Falleur captured the individual title.

New Mexico shot 11-under during Tuesday’s final round to climb from fourth place to second place at 30-under. It marked the 14th time in program history that the Lobos finished a tournament at 30-under or better. No. 12 Illinois won the event at 36-under, finishing six shots ahead of UNM. Ohio State was third at 21-under, while host Northwestern was fourth at 18-under and Notre Dame was fifth at 17-under.

It was the third consecutive top-two finish to start the season, having won the title at The Wohali and finishing runner-up at the William H. Tucker Invitational. The last time UNM had three straight top-two finishes to start a season was in 2004-05, when the Lobos started the season with four straight top-two finishes.

Falleur shot a collegiate-best 65 on Tuesday to finish at 12-under to post a two-shot victory. It is his second collegiate victory and first as a Lobo, as he also won the 2024 Summit League Championship while at Kansas City. The win marked the second consecutive individual title for the Lobos, after Emil Albers won the title last week at the William H. Tucker Invitational. It marks the first time since 2002-03 that Lobos won the individual title in consecutive events, when Michael Letzig won the title at the Mountain West Championship and the NCAA West Regional.

Albers had his second straight top-10 finish, finishing T-6th at 8-under after posting a final round 70 on Tuesday. Johnnie Clark had his best finish of the season at T-11th at 6-under, also shooting a 2-under 70 in the final round. Wyatt Provence finished the tournament at 3-under, while Thayer Plewe rounded out the lineup at 5-over.

“I am incredibly proud of the way Mesa played this week and in the way he finished so strong today,” said head coach Jake Harrington. “To have two different players win titles in the first three events shows just how talented this team is. We had three players in the top 11 this week and another in the top 21. Doing that will give us a chance to win every time out. I couldn’t be more proud of how this team is playing.”

The Lobos return to action next week with the NB3 Match Play Championship. The made-for-TV event, featuring team match play with the Lobo men’s and women’s teams, will run Tuesday and Wednesday at Twin Warriors Golf Club at the Santa Ana Pueblo and will be broadcast on Golf Channel.
