ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – The New Mexico men’s golf team begins its 2025-26 season this week with a trip to Utah for The Wohali. The tournament, hosted by Utah, will be held Monday-Tuesday and will be the first collegiate event at the new Wohali Club in Coalsville. It will feature two rounds on Monday and one round on Tueday at the par-71, 7,873-yard course.
The Lobos will feature a lineup of Thayer Plewe, Johnnie Clark, Wyatt Provence, Mesa Falleur and Emil Albers. Clark, who transferred to UNM this summer, and freshmen Plewe and Albers will all be making their Lobo debut in the event.
The 14-team field includes four teams in the preseason GCAA Top 25, with No. 6 Arizona State, No. 13 BYU, No. 24 UCLA and No. 25 San Diego State, along with three other teams, the Lobos, host Utes and UNLV, receiving votes in the poll. Cal Poly, Colorado State, Georgia State, Kansas State, Oregon State, San Diego and Tarleton State round out the field.
In addition to the Wohali, two Lobos will be in action in Utah’s individual event in conjunction with the tournament. Oliver Cage and Alvaro Portillo will be playing in the Soldier Hollow Individual in nearby Midway.
New Mexico’s play in the inaugural event at Wohali marks the program’s first tournament in Utah since 2021, when the Lobos played in the PING Cougar Classic in Provo.
