Entering the match averaging 16.3 shots per match, the Lobos were held to seven shots in the match, four on goal, while the Titans registered 24 shots with five on goal.
Both teams had opportunities in the box in the early stages of the match with Alysa Whelchel’s shot in the sixth minute blocked and shots by Cal State Fullerton in the first minute and seventh minute blocked. However, the Titans’ third shot 8:57 in found the back of the net on a shot from the top right corner of the box to the top left corner of the goal.
The Titans had another good look in the 16th minute with Jasmin Gonzalez-Rutt able to gather the ball in and later punched the ball away following a free kick in the 18th minute.
UNM had a good chance in the 19th minute with a shot by Kennedy Brown blocked, but with the ball staying in the penalty box, Savanah Sanchez poked the ball to Mercedes Morris, who was unable to get any weight behind the shot, sending it bottom center and was saved by the Titan keeper.
The deficit became 2-0 in the 38th minute on a floater outside of the box that went top left. Nicole Anderson tried to work around a couple of defenders in the 39th minute, getting the ball in the box, but the Titan goalkeeper was there to collect the ball.
A shot by Aléjandra Puerto near midfield in the 44th minute forced the Titan goalkeeper to retreat and make an over the shoulder reach to knock the ball down and make the save before the half came to a close with the Lobos trailing 2-0.
The Titans outshot the Lobos 9-4 in the first 45 minutes with a 3-2 advantage in shots on goal.
A UNM corner kick in the 51st minute, its first of the match, pinballed around in the box with the Lobos unable to get a shot on goal. CSF capitalized on a corner kick in the 55th minute with an initial header going off the post and another Titan player there for the rebound and headed it into the net.
Allie Anderson kept the ball out of the net following a shot to the bottom left off of a corner kick in the 67th minute, meeting the ball before the Titan attacker could get a foot on it and following an additional blocked shot five seconds later, the Lobos cleared it.
UNM put two more shots on frame as Celina Frenz put a shot on target in the 79th minute that was saved with Macie Harris also getting a shot on goal in the 83rd minute that was saved, which was the final shot recorded by the Lobos in the match.
