RIVERSIDE, Calif. – New Mexico Volleyball suffered its first loss of the season in its weekend tournament opener vs. Portland State at CBU’s Van Dyne Gym on Thursday, falling to the Vikings (2-5) in four sets.
The Lobos (6-1) got double-digit kills from Uliana Yastrub (11) and Addison France (10) as they fought to get back within a point late in each of the final three sets but couldn’t close the gap before set point. Seven other Lobos finished with multiple – Solia Angilau (9), Seenane Brewer (8), Gioia Riccato (4), Reagan Miller (3), Amanda Tremeroli (2), Madison Blanco (2) and Zoe Leonard (2).
Madeleine Miller finished with 34 of UNM’s 46 assists while notching her third double-double of the season with a team-high 17 digs. Camila Canedo produced two assists with 12 digs at libero, with France supplying six more assists to go with seven digs – Yastrub and Brewer both also finished with seven digs each and Blanco added nine.
UNM hit .250 as a team in the opening set with just two errors but were held to .189 hitting the rest of the way as the Vikings gained momentum despite connecting on 14 kills in the second set and 16 in the fourth.
