Lobos Host Aggies Sunday

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M.— After a successful road trip in which the Lobos went 2-0 with wins over Oregon and Oregon State, New Mexico returns home to host New Mexico State on Sunday at 1:30 p.m.

The match will be streamed on the Mountain West Network with live stats available. UNM is 3-0-2 and NMSU is 1-5-0 entering the match. Historically, UNM is 11-2-0, 6-0-0 at home in the series. The last three matches have been 3-1 finals with UNM 2-1 in those instances, and UNM has won four of the last five matches.

CLEANING UP IN OREGON
The Lobos went 2-0 on their Oregon road trip with two clean sheets, defeating Oregon and Oregon State by scores of 1-0.

Alèjandra Puerto provided the lone goal at Oregon in the 68th minute with Lobo keeper Jasmin Gonzalez-Rutt facing 13 shots, three of which were on goal, to record her second shutout of the season. As a team, UNM took 12 shots, six on goal, with six shots and three on goal in each half.

Against Oregon State, a corner kick set up the goal. Fiona Jenkins sent it into the box with Gabby Beaudry getting her right foot on it and sending it to the bottom right of the net for the goal 5:40 in. The Beavers outshot the Lobos 17-12 with each team finishing with six shots on goal, and OSU also held the edge in corner kicks at 11-7.

On the week, UNM took 24 shots, 12 on goal, with UNM goalies making nine saves, including a season-high six from Alyson Campbell against OSU.

Of note, it was the first win against Oregon State in program history (previously 0-5-0) and the Lobos moved to 2-0-0 against Oregon.

FIONA HERE TO ASSIST YOU
Through five matches, junior Fiona Jenkins has been credited with six assists, with at least one in four matches and one assist in each of the last three.

Jenkins opened the season with a career- and program-high three against Texas Southern, added one against Colorado School of Mines and assisted on the game-winning goals at Oregon and Oregon State.

Her six to date is on pace for the program season record for assists (10), last done by Jael Fanning in 2011. Laurie Hegedorn also had 10 in the 1997 season.

Nationally, the Lobo ranks tied for third in assists per game (1.20) and tied for third in total assists, one of two players with six. She ranks behind Lilly Yordy (Northern Kentucky, 7) and Amelia Swinarski (Louisville, 9).

Jenkins leads the Mountain West, with the second-highest player at three assists. In her career, Jenkins has seven assists (one in 2024).

WHERE THEY STAND
As a team and individually, the Lobos rank amongst the best in the Mountain West and the NCAA in several statistical categories.

Through the first five matches, UNM is tied for: 30th in the NCAA in scoring offense (2.8), 27th in shots on goal per game (8.6), 25th in total goals (14), 30th in points per game (7.8), 22nd in goal differential (10), 34th in total points (39), 46th in shots per game (17.0), 52nd in total assists (11), 54th in assists per game (2.2) and 28th in shutout percentage (.600).

On an individual level, Fiona Jenkins is tied for third in assists per game (1.2) and tied for third in total assists (6). Nicole Anderson is 43rd in goals per game (0.8), 31st in total goals (4), 30th in shots on goal per game (2.00), and 34th in shots per game (3.80). Jasmin Gonzalez-Rutt is 41st in shutouts (2).

UNM is first in the MW in points (39), goals (14), goals per game (2.8), goal differential (10), assists (11) and assists per game (2.2), as well as in shots (85) and shots per game (17).

Anderson is tied for the conference lead in goals (4), shots (19) and shots per game (3.8), and is second in goals per game (0.8). She is tied for third in the MW in points (8) and points per game (1.6). Jenkins leads the conference in assists (6) and assists per game (1.2) with Frenz tied for fourth in assists (2) and assists per game (0.40).

DEFENDERS GO THE DISTANCE
The Lobo defense has been a display of stamina, with five defenders playing the full 90 minutes multiple times this season.

Allie Anderson, Morgan Juran and Kennedy Brown have played 90’ four matches this season, while Fiona Jenkins has played 90’ three times and Ashley Moody playing 90’ in two of the three matches she’s played this season.

Anderson and Brown have played all 90 minutes the last four matches and Juran and Moody in the last two.

Juran (431), Jenkins (427), Brown (421) and Anderson (418) have all played over 92% of the minutes this season.

THROUGH THE FIRST FIVE
UNM has scored 14 goals through its first five matches, with UNM needing 10 matches last season to match that total (Oct. 3 vs. Boise State).

The 14 goals are the most by a Lobo team since UNM scored 17 goals through its first four matches in spring 2021.

The Lobos are unbeaten through their first five matches (3-0-2) with the last time the Lobos achieved this back in spring 2021 (5-0-0).

Their 2-0-2 record through the first four matches of the season is the second time in three years that the Lobos have gone unbeaten in their first four games to start the season (2023, UNM also went 2-0-2).

UNM is outshooting opponents 85-50 and 43-15 in shots on goal. The Lobos have had the edge in shots in three of the four matches (Oregon and Oregon State exceptions), but in on goal in four.

As a defensive unit, the Lobos are allowing 10 shots a match (five in each half), 15 shots on goal (3 per match), shutting out opponents in three matches.

ABOUT NEW MEXICO STATE
The Aggies are 1-5 with a match to play on Thursday, with a season-opening 1-0 win against Abilene Christian and have lost to Arizona, then-No. 5 USC, Colorado, Arizona State and Colorado College.

To date, NMSU has scored three goals with Meredith Scott scoring two goals and Tessa O’Neill scoring a goal. Three different players have accounted for an assist.

In goal, Valerie Guha has started six matches and allowed 13 goals with 25 saves, playing 520:42. Opponents are outshooting NMSU 100-35, 41-19 in shots on goal, and outscoring the Aggies 13-3.
