Lobos Secure Second Clean Sheet of Week with Win at Oregon State

by Allison Weiss

CORVALLIS, Ore.— The Lobos remained undefeated in the 2025 season and earned their second clean sheet of the Oregon road trip with a 1-0 win at Oregon State Sunday afternoon.

Sunday’s win was UNM’s first all-time against OSU as well as the first win for Alyson Campbell and third shutout of the season.

UNM was the aggressor from the onset, with the Lobos getting on the board in the sixth minute.

The Lobos created their first good chance of the match in the first minute as Fiona Jenkins took a free kick 41 seconds in that found Celina Frenz just outside the penalty box, with the freshman getting a foot on it and tried to redirect it to the right side of the net, which was saved by the OSU keeper.

UNM maintained pressure in the first few minutes of the match, earning a corner kick 3:23 in and possessed the ball in the OSU third of the field for the majority of the first five minutes with a second corner kick at the 5:08 mark.

The persistence amounted to an early goal as the second corner kick resulted in UNM finding the back of the net. Jenkins sent it into the box with Gabby Beaudry getting her right foot on it and sending it to the bottom right of the net for the goal 5:40 in. It was Beaudry’s second goal of the season and the sixth assist for Jenkins, as well as the fastest goal scored for the Lobos this season.

Making her first career start, Campbell calmly made her first save on OSU’s first shot on goal in the match at the 12:13 point of the match.

The Beavers had a chance to even the match in the 17th minute with the ball crossed into the box from just outside the right edge of the 18-yard box, with Campbell getting a hand on it to deflect it away. However, a Beaver was in the area and able to get a shot off with the shot hitting the left post.

UNM kept on the attack with Savanah Sanchez getting a head on an Allie Anderson feed into the box in the 31st minute that was saved by the Beaver keeper and a shot by Jenkins in the 32nd minute off target and wide of the right post.

A shot by OSU in the 35th minute sailed over the top of the goal, with UNM’s next shot being saved by OSU’s goalkeeper on a shot by Nicole Anderson.

The Lobo defense withstood an abundance of Beaver corner kicks with Campbell making two plays on the ball and the defense blocking two shot attempts. Consecutive Beaver corner kicks at 41:05 and 41:34 led to Campbell getting a hand on the first one, sending it out of play and the second a blocked shot. A third corner kick (42:25) led to a blocked shot and a fourth corner kick (43:01) resulted in Campbell again getting a glove on it. A foul at 43:42 led to a yellow card for Mercedes Morris and a Beaver free kick just outside the top of the 18-yard box, but the shot on the restart was off frame and out of play for a goal kick.

Sherry Diep took a final shot, albeit it off target, shortly before the half came to a close, with the 1-0 Lobo lead holding at the break. Through the first 45 minutes, UNM held a 4-2 advantage in shots on goal, while OSU held a 9-6 edge in shots and a 6-2 edge in corner kicks.

Jenkins set up Sanchez for a good look to start the second half, crossing the ball into the box in the 49th minute, with Sanchez getting a head on it forcing the OSU keeper to swat it away. With the ball loose, N. Anderson got a shot off that trickled past the outside post. Campbell got gloves on the first Beaver shot on goal in the second half at 50:41, sending it out of play and set up an OSU corner kick, with the Lobo defense clearing it.

The junior Lobo keeper continued to deny chances as a Beaver shot towards the right post at 59:25 led to a diving save for Campbell, while on the other end, N. Anderson had a good look from close range at 62:55 that led to a kicked save from the OSU goalkeeper and a corner kick. A N. Anderson shot was blocked to lead to another corner, the third in a span of 1:18, leading to a shot off target from Alèjandra Puerto. A fourth corner kick (67:14) led to another off target shot by Puerto.

Down the stretch, the Lobos further thwarted Beaver opportunities in the 71st minute, with the shot sailing over the net and Campbell bringing in another shot in the 72nd minute. A header was easily handled by Campbell, the junior keeper made a save at 79:14 and a cross was caught by Campbell in the 82nd minute. A Beaver shot was blocked at 83:04 to set up a corner kick, but an OSU foul awarded a free kick for UNM. The Lobos cleared another corner kick at 85:54 and Campbell made a diving save to her right at 86:28.  The junior finished with six saves to record the clean sheet.

OSU had one final chance to level the match with a corner kick at 89:42, but a foul led to a free kick awarded to UNM and the Lobos were able to hold off the Beavers for the 1-0 final.

The Beavers outshot the Lobos 17-12 with each team finishing with six shots on goal, and OSU also held the edge in corner kicks at 11-7.

UNM (3-0-2) returns home to host New Mexico State on Sunday at 1:30 p.m. MT.
