Press Conference: Lobo Football Coach Jason Eck
ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — University of New Mexico head coach Jason Eck took to the podium on Tuesday for the first weekly Media Luncheon, where he talked about and answered questions regarding UNM’s upcoming game with No. 14 University of Michigan.
The Lobos and Wolverines will kick off officially at 7:36 pm Eastern in the Big House, and it should be the largest crowd ever to witness a Lobo football game in history. Fans can watch on NBC or Peacock, and listen to Voice of the Lobos Robert Portnoy on 770 AM/96.3 FM KKOB, starting at 4:30 p.m. Mountain Time.
The game is the first for UNM with Eck in charge, and he has 75 new players, the most for any FBS team in the country. Of those, 48 are transfers (42 of whom are Division I transfers) and 27 are first-year students. UNM has named Jack Layne, a transfer from Idaho, as the starting quarterback, and Michigan is going with Bryce Underwood, a true freshman from nearby Detroit, as the starter.
The Lobos return just five starters from a year ago and have an entirely new offense and defense. UNM returns just 11 players who have started a game for New Mexico, but 31 transfers have been starters at their previous schools, providing UNM with some experienced veteran leadership.
Lobo Talk is tonight, Tuesday, August 26, at 7–8 pm live from Sandia Resort & Casino, taking place in the beautiful Sandia Sports Bar. The Sandia Sports Bar adds a casual element of fun, great food, local craft beers, and inspired cocktails.
