Lobo Football Ready for the Bright Lights of Las Vegas

by Frank Mercogliano

LAS VEGAS, Nev. — Lobo Football will be out in full force as the Old Trapper Mountain West Media Days will take place in Las Vegas at Circa from Tuesday through Thursday, July 15-17.  The real action starts on Wednesday with the announcement of the Preseason All-Mountain West squads and the predicted order of finish.

Lobos representatives for Media Day are offensive lineman Richard Pearce and defensive lineman Gabe Lopez.  Pearce, a captain in 2024, is the only returning starter on an offense that brought in several highly-touted transfers, including four running backs who each led their Division I school in rushing a year ago. Lopez, who was UNM’s representative in Las Vegas last year, is one of three returning defenders who brought in a pair of All-Americans from the transfer portal.  UNM’s transfer class (which numbers 45) was rated the second-best in the Mountain West by On3.

The coach responsible for those transfers is Jason Eck, the first-year head coach, who went 26-13 in three seasons with the Idaho Vandals.  Idaho qualified for three straight FCS Playoff appearances under Eck after two winning seasons in the previous 22 years. Now, the personable head coach will head to Vegas, and we are betting on Eck winning over the town, the media, and anything else around Mountain West Media Day.

Lobo fans can follow along on social media on X (@UNMLoboFB) and Instagram (@UNMLoboFB) for great content throughout the event.  Additionally, fans will be able to watch live interviews on the Mountain West Network (www.themw.com/watch or www.golobos.com/watch) as Pearce and Lopez will join Mountain West Live from Las Vegas on Wednesday at 2:30 pm Mountain Time.  On Thursday, head coach Jason Eck will make his way to the Mountain West Live from Las Vegas stage at 1:30 pm Mountain Time.
