Charisse Williams Named Lobo Men’s Basketball Athletic Performance Coach
ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – University of New Mexico head coach Eric Olen announced Tuesday the addition of Charisse Williams to the Lobo basketball staff. Williams will serve as the Lobos’ Athletic Performance Coach and comes to UNM after serving the same role with the women’s basketball program at UNLV.
Williams spent the past three seasons at UNLV, working with the women’s basketball and women’s soccer programs. During her time in Vegas, the Rebels were the dominant women’s basketball program in the Mountain West, winning three straight regular season titles, two conference tournament titles and posting a 49-3 league record.
Prior to her time at UNLV, Williams spent a year as an assistant sport performance coach at UC San Diego, working primarily with Olympic sports but also assisting with Olen’s men’s basketball program and the women’s basketball program at UCSD. She got her start working in collegiate athletics as an strength and conditioning intern at her alma mater, Lindenwood University in Missouri, while also working as a strength and conditioning coach with Saint Louis Scott Gallagher, a youth soccer club.
A native of St. Louis, Mo., Williams was a four-year letterwinner as a guard on the women’s basketball team at Lindenwood from 2015-19. A two-year captain, she started 96 career games for the Lions and earned honorable mention all-conference honors as a senior. Williams earned her bachelor’s in exercise science, with a minor in strength and conditioning, from Lindenwood in 2019. She earned a masters in kinesiology, with a concentration in sport performance, from Point Loma Nazarene in 2022.
“I’m really excited to add Charisse to our staff,” said Olen. “Her background in basketball and experience with sports science are an ideal fit for our program. She brings a combination of enthusiasm and work ethic that will benefit our players and permeate our organization. We are thrilled to welcome Charisse to the Lobo Family.”
“The University of New Mexico is home to one of the nation’s most tradition-rich basketball programs and I can’t wait to get started,” said Williams. “I am excited and grateful to support these athletes, collaborate with this talented staff and contribute to the Lobo legacy.”
