Six Lobos Earn All-MW Baseball Honors
Ahead of Wednesday’s Mountain West Tournament opener, six New Mexico Baseball players earned All-Conference honors, the league announced Tuesday.
Outfielder Khalil Walker, infielder Josh McAlister and first baseman Ethan Ott were all named to the All-MW First Team, with pitcher Daxton Purser and outfielders Jordy Oriach and Will Asby making the Second Team.
It’s the most combined All-MW First and Second Team selections since 2013, when a total of nine Lobos made the cut. This year’s Lobos conclude the regular season with the No. 1 batting average in NCAA D-I (.339) with the most total doubles (148) and doubles per game (2.85) in the nation – with their win on Saturday over Fresno State, they’ve cracked 30 wins for the first time since 2017 under Coach Ray Birmingham (30-27-1, 19-9-1 MW).
For Walker, it’s the second year in a row with All-MW honors after being named to the second team after leading the league in batting average in 2024. It’s also Asby’s second year in a row after he made the All-MW First Team last season.
Purser is the first Lobo pitcher to earn all-conference honors since Justin Armbruester in 2021.
