Catch VP/AD Fernando Lovo on New Mexico News Insiders

by Frank Mercogliano

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — It’s been a busy 120+ days for Fernando Lovo as the Vice President/Director of Athletics, having to hire coaches to the two most profile sports at The University of New Mexico, bringing in Jason Eck for football and Eric Olen for men’s basketball.  Along with that, he has handled UNM’s NCAA Tournament run into the Second Round, spent countless hours in Santa Fe showcasing Lobo Athletics to members of the Roundhouse.

Oh yeah, and he packed up a house, his wife, a five-year old, a three-year old and one golden doodle into a car and drive 16 hours from Austin, Texas to Albuquerque.  It’s been quite the ride, but Lovo carved out 45 minutes to head to the KRQE studios to sit down with Chris McKee and Gabrielle Burkhart for the New Mexico New Insiders Podcast.

In the wide-ranging interview, Lovo talks about his path to UNM, having to make some major hires in high profile sports, and how he is enjoying the New Mexico cuisine (spoiler alert, he leans green, but is working on enjoying red a little more) as he sat down for the interview.  An abbreviated version will also air on television on Wednesday night, April 30 at 10:30 p.m. MST on Fox New Mexico.

Fans can watch or listen to the podcast on any of your favorite podcast apps as well as Youtube and KRQE.com.
