Vandeputte Named All-MW, Lobos Ready to Face Air Force

by Frank Mercogliano

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. — Maud Vandeputte earned her first All-Mountain West honor, earning one of 16 spots on the All-Mountain West singles team as the league announced the 2025 All-Conference teams on the eve of the Mountain West Tournament.

Vandeputte earned the honor after going 13-9 overall but 10-2 in the spring season.  Vandeputte started the season playing at No. 2 singles and was 5-1 before moving into the lead No. 1 single spot, where she also went 5-1.  For Vandeputte, it’s the first All-Conference honor for the senior from Aarschot, Belgium.

Now, Vandeputte will be heading to the Mountain West Tournament as UNM will take on Air Force in the opening round on Wednesday morning at 10 am Pacific, 11 am Mountain Time.  The Lobos lost to Air Force in Albuquerque in the regular season.  The Lobos (8-15, 2-8 MW) are the No. 10 seed with Air Force (10-13, 4-6 MW) are the No. 7 seed.  In that matchup in Albuquerque on April 4, the Lobos lost the doubles point and the match came down to a wild match at No. 6 singles with the match tie at 3-3. In that No. 6 singles matchup, Air Force’s Shivaani Selvan edged Sofia Taborga 6-7 (6-8), 7-6 (7-5), 6-4.

Should the Lobos advance past the Falcons, UNM would face second-seeded Nevada on Thursday at 10 am Pacific/11 am Mountain.
