Lobos Face Miners Tuesday

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M.— The Lobos begin their final stretch of home games on Tuesday against UTEP with first pitch set for 2 p.m.

UNM is 20-24-1 on the season with UTEP 19-24 on the season. The two teams met on April 15 in El Paso with the Miners winning, while the Lobos won the last meeting at home, 6-1, on March 19, 2024.

Ashley Archuleta continues to lead the team in eight statistical categories: batting average (.409), slugging percentage (.591), on-base percentage (.510), runs scored (36), doubles (12), walks (21), triples (four) and total bases (75), and is second in hits (52) and tied for the team lead in hit-by-pitches (six). The Lobo senior has recorded 17 multiple-hit games and has reached base in the last four games. Her season batting average ranks fifth all-time, while her on-base percentage would be the third-best all-time in program history.

As a team, the Lobos have outscored opponents 62-45 through the first two innings of the season and are outscoring opponents 20-12 in the sixth inning. UNM is9-4 when leading after the first inning, 13-5 when leading after the second, 14-3 when leading after three, 15-3 when leading after four, 14-2 when leading after five and 16-2 when leading after six innings.

The Lobos are 13-5 when scoring more than five runs in a game and 19-5 when an opponent scores four runs or less. UNM is also 15-9 when outhitting its opponent.

On the season, the pitching staff has struck out 243 batters (5.85 per game) and allowed 134 walks (3.0 per game), with the strikeouts per game currently the most strikeouts per game in a single season in program history. The staff also holds a 3.71 ERA, which would the lowest since 2005 (3.35), and is holding opponents to .275 batting average, which would also be the lowest since 2005 (.268).

For the Miners, UTEP has thrown five pitchers this year, led by Taja Felder, who the Lobos faced in El Paso. Felder has appeared in a team-high 24 games with 16 starts with Serenity Jacoway throwing the second-most games with 22 and a team-high 78.2 innings.

UTEP is hitting .314 on the season, led by Ajia Richard at .484 behind 60 hits, and who also has a .839 slugging percentage and a .573 on-base percentage with 24 walks.

Following Tuesday’s game, the Lobos host Nevada for a three-game series starting on Friday.
