Carson Herron Named Mountain West Golfer of the Week
ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. –– New Mexico senior Carson Herron was named the Mountain West Men’s Golfer of the Week, conference officials announced Monday. Herron was honored after tying for first at the ASU Thunderbird Collegiate, where he finished runner-up in a playoff.
In the Lobos’ final event of the regular season, Herron led UNM to a fourth-place finish against a strong field at the ASU Thunderbird Collegiate. He shot a 12-under 201, tying his career low 54-hole total and tying for the sixth-best score in program history. Herron shot 66-68-67 over the two days to be the first Lobo this season to shoot all three rounds in the 60s this season. He was the tournament’s runner-up in a playoff, the second time this season he has gone to a playoff for an individual title.
The honor is the first of Herron’s career and the second Mountain West weekly/monthly honor this season for a Lobo. Oliver Cage was honored the first week of February.
The Lobos return to action on Friday with the start of the Mountain West Championship, held in Creswell, Ore.
