Lobos in Fifth After Round One of Mountain West Championship
RANCHO MIRAGE, Calif. – The New Mexico women’s golf team began play Tuesday at the 2025 Mountain West Championship with the opening round of play at the Dinah Shore Course at Mission Hills Country Club. The Lobos shot 10-over during the first round to finish the day in fifth place.
Nevada shot even par to hold the 18-hole lead at the championship. San Jose State is second at 3-over, with UNLV (4-over), Colorado State (7-over) and the Lobos (10-over) rounding out the top five.
Chelsea Truong led the Lobos on Tuesday, shooting an even par 72 to be T-5th after day one, three shots off the lead. Maria Garcia and Rebecca Galasso each shot 2-over in the first round, while Annie Saechueng shot 6-over and Maria Caparros Levin shot 9-over.
“We had it going today and just made too many mental errors toward the end of the round,” said head coach Jill Trujillo. “We’re looking forward to making a move tomorrow.”
The Mountain West Championship continues Wednesday and concludes Thursday at Mission Hills.
