by Allison Weiss

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M.— The Lobo freshmen continue to rack up the Mountain West weekly awards as pitcher Natalie Fritz was named Mountain West Freshman of the Week on Monday.

It marks her second conference accolade this season with the Lobos winning the freshman award in consecutive weeks for the second time this season. UNM has had the freshman of the week in four of the last six weeks.

Fritz earned the honor after posting a 0.88 ERA through two appearances against Colorado State, earning the win in Saturday’s game and throwing seven scoreless innings of the eight innings she pitched.

After allowing a run in the first inning of Saturday’s game, Fritz held the Rams scoreless for the remainder of her outing, which included retiring 11 consecutive batters between the third and sixth inning. The Arizona native finished with 6.0 innings pitched, allowing five hits on 24 Rams faced.

Fritz entered in relief in Sunday’s game at the start of the fifth inning and went 2.0 innings without allowing a run while striking out two Rams.
