Lobos Rank As Top MW School in Winter Learfield Standings
WESTLAKE, Ohio — The final Winter Learfield Director’s Cup Standings were officially released, and among Mountain West and Group of Five Conference schools, New Mexico’s 57th place standing ranks as the best among those two groups.
The Lobos are one of four Mountain West schools ranked in the top 100 of the standings, with Wyoming (85), Colorado State (88), and Utah State (91) also in the top 100. The only over non-power five schools ahead of UNM are Ivy League schools (Princeton 26th, Harvard 27th, Cornell 43rd) and UConn (44th).
New Mexico, which had a total of 141 points in the fall, picked up 137.5 in the winter. Men’s basketball earned 50 for its appearance in the Round of 32, men’s indoor track earned 46 for a 26th place finish, and women’s track earned 41.5 points for a 32nd place finish. Winter points were available in only five sports UNM sponsors in men’s and women’s indoor track & field, women’s swimming & diving, and men’s and women’s basketball. Points could be garned for national finishes in fencing, ice hockey, rifle, skiing, and wrestling.
