Maria Garcia Named Mountain West Freshman of the Week

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – New Mexico’s Maria Garcia was named the Mountain West Women’s Golf Freshman of the Week, conference officials announced Monday. Garcia was honored after being the Lobos’ top finisher at the PING/ASU Invitational. .

The honor is the third Freshman of the Week/Month award for Garcia this season, as she was also recognized twice in the fall. In addition, she was the conference’s Golfer of the Month for October.

Garcia was honored after being UNM’s top finisher at the PING/ASU Invitational in Phoenix as UNM battled six top-50 opponents. She finished T-27th individually at 2-over for the event. Her first round 72 was her team-best 10th round of par or better this season.

The Lobos will return to action April 15-17 with the Mountain West Championship in Palm Springs, Calif.
