Men’s Tennis Adds Jan Skerbatis for 2025-26
ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — Head men’s tennis coach Rob Bareford has announced the Jan Skerbatis, currently playing for the No. 3-ranked Valdosta State Blazers, will transfer to UNM and be a part of the 2025-26 Lobos.
Skerbatis, who hails from Koenigsbrunn, Germany, will be a senior in 2025-26, and he has spent the past two seasons at Valdosta. Currently, he is 9-3 overall in singles and 8-6 in doubles and that is after a 2023-24 that saw him for 9-5 (mainly at No. 6) in singles and 24-3 in doubles (mainly at No. 3).
Last year he was ranked as high as No. 21 in doubles before finishing the season at No. 47 as Valdosta State won the 2024 Division II National Championship along with the Gulf South Conference regular season and tournament championship. Valdosta State was ranked No. 1 in the final Division II rankings.
This season the Blazers are currently ranked No. 6 overall in Division II and the squad is 10-0 on the year.
Skerbatis played his freshman season at Northwest Missouri State where he went 13-6 at No. 4 singles and 17-10 playing at No. 1 doubles. He was the 2023 Missouri Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) Freshman of the Year and he was also the 2022 ITA Central Region Doubles Champion.
His high ranking for doubles was No. 7, and he finished the season ranked with two different partners, coming in at No. 21 and No. 32. His school was the 2023 MIAA regular season champions and it advanced to the Round of 16 at the NCAA Championships in Orlando.
