AWENDAW, S.C. –– The New Mexico men’s golf team opened play Sunday at the Hootie at Bulls Bay with the opening round of play at Bulls Bay Golf Club. The Lobos shot 3-under during the opening 18 holes to finish the day in ninth place.
Purdue is the first round leader after shooting 13-under on Sunday. Coastal Carolina is second at 11-under, while Furman (9-under), NC State (7-under) and Elon (7-under) round out the top five.
Mesa Falleur led the Lobos during the first round, shooting a 4-under 68 to be T-6th on the individual leaderboard. Oliver Cage and Carson Herron also shot in red numbers, each posting a 1-under 71 on Sunday. Alvaro Portillo shot 3-over while Wyatt Provence rounded out the lineup with a 5-over round.
“We got solid opening rounds from Mesa, Ollie and Carson today”, said head coach Jake Harrington. “A good round tomorrow will put us in great position for a solid finish on Tuesday.
The Hootie at Bulls Bay continues Monday and concludes Tuesday from just north of Charleston.
