McKenzie Named Mountain West Freshman of Week
ALBUQUERQUE, N.M.— For the second-straight week, a Lobo has been named the Mountain West Freshman of the Week with Miracle McKenzie earning the honor on Monday.
McKenzie’s accolade comes after leading the Lobos with four RBI in the series win over San José State and six RBI on the week. The California native hit .429 with a .556 on-base percentage with two, two RBI games against the Spartans and three, two RBI games on the week.
In Saturday’s win over the Spartans, McKenzie hit a single that scored a run that made it 3-1 Lobos and later reached on a fielder’s choice that allowed a run to score to put UNM 4-3 in the fifth inning. The freshman first baseman led the Lobos with two RBI in the game. In Sunday’s series-deciding game, she drew a walk following a full count in which she faced 10 pitches to load the bases with two outs, and on the next at-bat, UNM hit a double to score two runs to break the 3-3 tie and take the lead for good.
McKenzie was 5-5 in successfully advancing runners against SJSU, as well as 2-3 with runners in scoring position.
UNM has won two freshman weekly awards and three conference awards overall this season.
