Women's Tennis Opens MW Play on Front Range
ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — The Lobo women’s tennis team can put the non-conference season in the rear-view mirror as UNM will begin the official defense of their 2024 regular season title this weekend, taking on Wyoming on Friday and Colorado State on Sunday. The Wyoming match will be livestreamed, and should the CSU match be outside, it will also be livestreamed.
The Lobos and Wyoming meet up on Friday at 3 pm in Laramie and UNM and CSU will battle at 11 am in Fort Collins. The Lobos enter conference play at 6-7 on the season, having lost three straight. Wyoming is 3-9 overall and Colorado State is 2-9, and they are the only two porgrams in the Mountain West currently more than one game below .500.
Last year the Lobos swept the two teams in tight matches, defeating Colorado State indoors in Albuquerque 4-2 and also beating Wyoming at McKinnon 4-3.
The Lobos have gotten good play of late from Sarah O’Connor, who has won three of four at the No. 3 slot, and Maud Vandeputte has moved up into the No. 1 position for UNM. Wyoming is coming off a 5-2 win over West Alabama. Colorado State has split the last two outings, winning 4-2 over UC Riverside and losing 4-0 to Cal State Fullerton.
