Noroozian Named MW Player of the Week

by Frank Mercogliano

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. — Aram Noroozian had about as good a week as you can have, going 4-0 in leading UNM to a title in the Third Annual Jack Kennedy Classic.  He was honored with that stellar week as he was named Mountain West Player of the Week.

It’s the second time in his career that he has won Mountain West Player of the Week honors, having done so last year on February 21.

Last week Noroozian went 4-0, 2-0 in singles and 2-0 in doubles in helping lead UNM to the 2025 Jack Kennedy Classic title with wins over Wichita State (5-2) and No. 67 Santa Clara (6-1). The big match of the week was on Sunday when he defeated No. 104 Alexander Watanabe Eriksson of Santa Clara (6-3, 6-2)  extending UNM’s lead to 3-1.

Noroozian also won both doubles matches 6-1, contributing to back-to-back doubles point sweeps.  For the week, Noroozian didn’t lose a set and outscored his opponents 36-12.

The Lobos and Noroozian are back in action on Sunday against New Mexico State in Las Cruces.  That match was originally schedule for Saturday but moved due to impending weather.
