Gomez Makes Third Straight Final
FEDERAL WAY, Wash. — Isabella Gomez qualified for the 1-meter finals, giving her three consecutive finals at the NCAA Zone E Championships, and while she missed qualifying for the NCAA Championships, the week capped off a brilliant for season for the diver from Colombia.
Gomez qualified 18th, 1.95 points ahead of Northern Arizona’s Margaret Wesche. She was able to move up as far as 15th after her fourth dive, but she was not able to make up any more ground over her last two dives, finishing 17th. It capped off a great week for the first-year Lobo. She finished 15th in the 3-meter, 12th in the platform and 12th in the 1-meter, and that comes on the heels of finishing as an All-Mountain West performer in all three dives.
Alice English for UNM also competed, but missed the finals cut, finishing 47th.
With diving Zones finished, attention will now turn towards Ocala, Florida and the CSCAA National Invitational Championships, where UNM has several swimmers going over the three days of competition. On Thursday, Sophia Corder and Arianna Stokes will compete in the 50-yard fly, and Stokes will compete in the 50-yard free as well. Jordan Foster will battle in the 50-yard breast and all three will team up with Linda Franco for the 200-yard freestyle relay.
On Friday, Foster will go in the 100-yard breast and on Saturday Foster will again compete, this time in the 100-yard individual medley and the 200-yard breast. Stokes will also compete in the 100-yard free. The CSCAA National Invitational Championships will be livestreamed here.
