Gomez Just Misses NCAAs, FInishes 12th in Platform
FEDERAL WAY, Wash. — Isabella Gomez just missed becoming UNM’s first NCAA qualifier in diving in 12 years, finishing 12th in the platform dive at the NCAA Zone E Championships. Gomez missed by just 7.95 points.
Additionally for UNM, Arianna Pelligra finished 38th.
Gomez finished eighth in the prelims, and much like she did at the Mountain West Championships, she split her dives up with two from 5-meter, two from 7.5-meter and one from the top height of 10-meters. Gomez got as high as sixth after her second dive, but she got surpassed in her third dive of the finals and couldn’t quite get back into the top-9, although she got really close. Her final dive scored 45.00 points, needing 53.00 points a score she topped on her second dive with a 54.25. Michole Greenwood was the last diver for UNM to qualify for the NCAAs, coming in third in 3-meter. Her 12th place finish was the best finish on the platform since 2013 when Megan Harper finished 13th.
The final day of the Zones is on Wednesday, with both Gomez and Alice English participating in the 1-meter.
