Lobos In Eighth After Day One of Lamkin Invitational

CHULA VISTA, Calif. –– The New Mexico men’s golf team opened play Monday at the Lamkin Invitational with the opening two rounds at the San Diego Country Club. The Lobos shot 6-under during the opening 36 holes to finish the day tied for eighth.

The Lobos shot 1-under during the morning’s opening round before shooting 5-under during the afternoon. Co-hosts San Diego State (23-under) and San Diego (22-under) are the top two on the leaderboard after two rounds of play. Colorado is third at 21-under, followed by Santa Clara (15-under), Saint Mary’s (13-under), Colorado State (12-under) and Loyola Marymount (7-under). New Mexico is tied for eighth with BYU, Notre Dame and Wyoming.

Mesa Falleur and Wyatt Provence led New Mexico during Monday’s play and both are in the individual top 20. Falleur shot even par 72 in the morning before a 5-under 67 in the second round to be T-16th at 5-under. Provence shot 68 and 72 to finish the day T-20th at 4-under. Carson Herron is 1-over, Oliver Cage is 2-over and Alvaro Portillo rounded out the lineup at 11-under. Clark Sonnenberg, playing as an individual, is at 7-over.

The Lamkin Invitational concludes Tuesday with the final round at San Diego Country Club.
