Three Lobos Earn All-Mountain West Honors
LAS VEGAS, Nev.— Three Lobos earned Mountain West all-conference honors as announced by the conference on Sunday.
Viané Cumber earned all-Mountain West for the first time in her career as a Lobo, Destinee Hooks earned all-conference honorable mention and Joana Magalhães earned a spot on the all-freshman team. Cumber was one of 10 players selected to the all-conference team with Hooks one of three garnering honorable mention and Magalhães one of six on the all-freshman team.
Cumber led the conference in three-pointers per game (2.6) and in three-point field goal percentage (with a minimum of 2.5 three-point field goals per game) at 35.9% and finished with 47 three-pointers in conference play, eight more than the next MW player. The New Mexico native was also second in free throw percentage, going 87.3% from the line on 48-55 shooting and 10th in points per game at 15.2. The senior finished in double figures in 13 games with six games of 20 or more points, including a career-high 27 against Boise State. In addition, she had 11 games with multiple three-pointers, including six games with four or more three-pointers and four games with five or more three-pointers. Cumber also recorded one double-double with 25 points and 11 rebounds at Colorado State, and averaged 5.1 rebounds per game and 33.3 minutes per game.
Hooks reached double figures in 15 conference games, averaging 14.2 points per game, with two games of 20 or more points, including 27 points against UNLV. In her first year with the Lobos, Hooks led the Lobos in scoring in eight conference games and finished 11th in the conference in scoring and 10th in field goal percentage (.420). In addition, Hooks recorded a steal in 10 games with multiple steals in six.
Magalhães started 17 games and scored double figures in 10 games with a season-high 20 points at Colorado State, averaging 9.8 points per game in conference. The Lobo freshman was 18th in the conference in rebounding (5.2), the second highest on the team, 13th in assists per game (2.6), 12th in steals per game (1.4) and ninth in defensive rebounds per game (4.6). Additionally, Magalhães recorded a steal in 12 games with multiple steals in eight games with three or more steals in four games. Playing in all 18 games, the freshman averaged 27.6 minutes per game and shot 41.2%.
