ALBUQUERQUE, N.M – The Mountain West regular season champion New Mexico Lobos conclude the regular season Friday night by hosting UNLV at The Pit. Game time is 8:00 p.m. and the game will air on CBS Sports Network and the Lobo Radio Network.
Friday night’s game is sold out, the fourth sellout for the Lobos. Gates open at 6:30 p.m. and fans are encouraged to wear red as we Cherry Out The Pit. Prior to the game will be the Senior Night celebration, as Mustapha Amzil, Atiki Ally Atiki, Nelly Junior Joseph and CJ Noland will be honored. Following the game will be a celebration of New Mexico’s Mountain West regular season championship.
New Mexico (24-6, 16-3 MW) clinched at least a share of the Mountain West regular season title with Tuesday’s 71-67 win at Nevada, and can win the outright title with a victory on Friday night. It is UNM’s first regular season title since 2012-13. Donovan Dent is the only player in the nation to be averaging over 20 points and six assists per game.
UNLV (17-13, 11-8 MW) has won three straight and six of the last seven after a 74-67 home victory over San Diego State on Tuesday. Julian Rishwain scored 26 points in the victory over the Aztecs.
The Runnin’ Rebels lead the all-time series 43-27, including a 16-15 record in The Pit as they are the only visiting team to have a winning record in the building (min. three games). The Lobos won the first meeting this season, 75-73, in Las Vegas as Dent scored 34 points and Joseph added 22 points and 18 rebounds.
The Lobos will be the No. 1 seed at next week’s Mountain West Tournament in Las Vegas. After a first round bye, New Mexico will play either San Jose State or Wyoming in the quarterfinals on Thursday (noon PT, CBS Sports Network).
