Jordy Oriach Named MW POTW for Second Week in a Row

by Connor Gilbert

After another scorching week at home that saw him 10 RBI and six extra base hits with a .474 average, Jordy Oriach was named Mountain West Player of the Week for the second week in a row.

The honor makes it three weeks in a row in which a Lobo takes home a conference weekly award — Cooper Brass was named MW Freshman of the Week following Week One, with Oriach earning POTW honors last week.

Across five starts as the Lobos won a midweek rivalry matchup with New Mexico State on Tuesday and took three of four games from Rhode Island to complete a 4-1 week, the junior led the team with 10 RBIs on nine hits, including three doubles, a triple, and two home runs.

Oriach was especially dangerous with runners on base, driving in multiple runs in three of his five games and batting 5/10 with runners aboard (.500). He slugged 1.053 on the week while reaching base at a .560 clip, drawing four walks and striking out just twice in 19 at-bats.

In UNM’s midweek matchup on Tuesday, Oriach went 2-for-3 with 3 RBI and a homer as the Lobos shut out the Aggies 7-0 before racking up seven more hits — with two doubles, a triple and a homer — over the four-game weekend set.
