SANTA CLARITA, Calif. – The New Mexico women’s golf team concluded play Tuesday at the Bruin Wave Invitational with the final round of play at Valencia Country Club. The Lobos shot 19-over during the final round to finish the event in sixth place, finishing ahead of two teams ranked in the top 80 nationally.

Co-host UCLA took the title, finishing the event at 6-over. Baylor was second at 28-over, followed by Pepperdine (31-over), Arizona (33-over), Cal (47-over) and the Lobos.

The Lobo freshman class continued to lead the team during the final day. Chelsea Truong shot the low round of the day for UNM on Tuesday, a 1-over 73, to finish the tournament at 14-over. Classmate Maria Garcia was the Lobos’ top individual finisher, ending the tournament T-14th at 8-over after a final round 77. Rebecca Galasso was T-27th at 13-over, while Maria Caparros Levin finished at 20-over and Annie Saechueng finished at 24-over.

“The scores were high here at Valencia Country Club with some tough conditions,” said head coach Jill Trujillo. “Chelsea was a bright spot for us and played well today. We’ll need to focus on the short game before our next event.”

The Lobos return to action March 17-18 with a trip to Austin, Texas, for the Betsy Rawls Longhorn Invitational.
