Mountain West-Leading Lobos Visit San Diego State Tuesday Night

by Steve Kirkland

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M – The Mountain west-leading New Mexico men’s basketball team travels to California this week for a Tuesday night matchup with San Diego State. Game time is 9:00 pm MT (8:00 pm PT) at Viejas Arena and the game will air on FS1 and the Lobo Radio Network.

New Mexico (22-5, 14-2 MW) is in first place in the Mountain West and is looking to tie the school record for conference wins in a season, set in 2013-14 when the Lobos went 15-3 in the Mountain West. UNM is coming off an 86-78 loss at Boise State last week, which snapped its eight-game win streak. Donovan Dent leads the Mountain West in scoring at 19.6 ppg and is the only player in the nation averaging over 19 points and six assists per game.

San Diego State (18-20, 11-5 MW) is coming off a 79-71 loss at Utah State on Saturday night. The Aztecs are 10-3 at home this season, including winning their last four. SDSU is led by Nick Boyd and Miles Byrd, who average 12.8 and 12.7 ppg, respectively.

New Mexico leads the all-time series 52-45, but San Diego State leads 29-14 in San Diego, including 16-8 at Viejas Arena. The Lobos have won the last two meetings, winning the first meeting this season at The Pit, 62-48, on Jan. 11 after winning last year’s Mountain West Tournament final over the Aztecs.

New Mexico returns home Saturday to host Air Force for a noon tip-off. Limited tickets remain for the game, as well as the Lobos’ regular season finale vs. UNLV on Mar. 7, and are on sale now at GoLobos.com/tickets.
