Women's Tennis Heads to Texas for Two
ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — The New Mexico Lobos take a two-match road winning streak right back out on the road as UNM faces Abilene Christian and Tarleton State on Friday and Saturday, with both matches starting at noon Mountain Time.
The Lobos are coming off a good weekend down the road, winning 4-2 at UTEP and at New Mexico State. In both wins, the Lobos got clinching singles wins from Maud Vandeputte, the first in a three-set comeback against UTEP, and the second a straight set win over New Mexico State, winning 7-6 (11-9) in the final. Additionally, Maria Matsoukatidi went 3-0 on the week in doubles and singles, earning Mountain West Freshman of the Week honors.
The Lobos are 5-4 on the season, having won four of five. Abilene Christian enters the weekend 2-6 on the season, and Tarleton State is 5-3 on the year. ACU is on a two-match winning streak after losing the first six to start the year, including a 4-0 loss to New Mexico State. Tarleton State won its first four matches of the season, including a 4-3 win over New Mexico State, but followed that up with a three-match losing streak before winning its last outing 6-1 over Incarnate Word.
The two matches this weekend are the third and fourth matches on the road in a stretch of eight straight games on the road.
