Lobos FInish up Opening Road Swing in Tennessee
MURFREESBORO, Tenn. — The New Mexico Lobos at least can stay in the same hotel for a few days. After a long, winding road trek to open the season, the Lobos will play the final three matches of a season-opening nine-match streak of away matches this weekend. The Lobos will take on South Alabama at noon MT on Friday, No. 45 Middle Tennessee State at 1 p.m. MT on Saturday and then No. 55 Utah on Sunday at 9 a.m. MT. All three matches will be played in Murfreesboro on the campus of Middle Tennessee State.
UNM enters the match with a 3-3 record, with all three wins coming by a 4-3 score. Aram Noroozian and Georgio Samaha are unbeaten in the spring and have won eight straight dating back to November. The pair is ranked No. 51 nationally, and the pair will face a tough test for certain on Saturday when they most likely match up with Ondrej Horakk and Karim Al-Amin on MTSU, who are ranked No. 76.
South Alabama is 2-5 on the season, having lost four straight. MTSU is ranked No. 45 and is 6-6 with three straight wins, including 4-3 over Arkansas and 5-2 over Oklahoma State. Utah is ranked No. 55 and it is 6-2 on the season, effectively flushing away the memory of last year’s 3-20 season.
