Lobos Finish 11th at John Burns Intercollegiate

LIHUE, Hawaii –– The New Mexico men’s golf team concluded play Saturday at the John Burns Intercollegiate with the final round at the Ocean Course at Hokuala on the Hawaiian island of Kauai. The Lobos shot 9-over during the final 18 holes to finish in a tie for 11th place at 14-over for the week.

Utah and UNLV both finished at 22-under to finish atop the team leaderboard. Santa Clara was third at 10-under, Long Beach State was fourth at 5-under, while San Diego State and Illinois round out the top five at 3-under.

Mesa Falleur capped a strong week for the Lobos on Saturday, shooting a final round 3-under 67 to finish T-8th at 4-under. It was his second top-10 finish of the season. Alvaro Portillo finished at 3-ober after a final round 72 on Saturday. Oliver Cage shot an even par 70 to close out his week, finishing at 12-over, tying Clark Sonnenberg, who also finished at 12-over. Wyatt Provence rounded out the Lobo lineup, finishing the tournament at 14-over.

The Lobos will send individuals to the Wyoming Desert Intercollegiate in California later this month, and will return to action as a team March 2-4 with the Southern Highlands Invitational in Las Vegas.
